Virginia Folkestad
Colorado based installation artist / sculptor Virginia Folkestad uses art to explore life. The strong physicality of her work challenges and engages the viewer to both notice the realities of the physical world in which we live, but also to think about the ideas that connect us to our world. Her work is stunningly beautiful in its simplicity, but at the same time typically juxtaposes strength and fragility in both her use of materials (forged steel, concrete, thread and paper) and the ideas and subject matter she deals with. Folkestad’s conceptual installations draw the viewer in; not only inviting, but compelling one to interact, think, contemplate and talk about the work as well as their own personal thoughts, histories and experiences.
