Svava Thordis Juliusson

Svava Thordis Juliusson was born in Iceland, immigrating to Canada at age ten. Ideas around transformation are central to her current artist practice and much of her work is rooted in her interest in using and manipulating traditional sculptural techniques with non-traditional sculpture materials. Juliusson’s work is personal and reflective but at the same time responds to both current events and the daily activities of life around her. Her current body of work is a reaction to the accumulation of art-making materials (styrofoam balls, bungee cords, scraps of linoleum, shards of plaster, cable ties) in her home and studio. These sculptural works and the drawings they inspire have a sense of beauty, fragility and elegance that one does not typically associate with work that is composed from and inspired by industrial and construction materials.
